Prisons of the Mind

by stewart

Your mind is a prison.

It is also a door that opens

to infinite possibilities

that this world and the universe offer.

Here, by Design, you have been chained by your thoughts,

fears and imagining of things you desire,

and what you have been taught you should want.

This aspect of the mind

with its endless selfish needs,

serves as a friction pushing us forward

to the door of Higher Consciousness.

On another level, your mind is a boundary

between this world and the next;

without this door you would be of no use in this world.

Learn to go beyond yourself and the prison you helped create.

That is the beginning of the soul’s journey Home;

and in using this ability to go beyond self

you will awaken wondrous capacities

to help free self and others.

So how to start and where to begin?

Learn to see what is in front of you:

Not what you have been taught is there

but what is actually present.

Question what you learned about reality

and why you came here.

That is one way to begin.

Good afternoon Dr. SB,
This is Dr. B’Mary…
I was attracted to your article on free “will”, because I recently came to the conclusion that the wonderful gift of our ‘will’ is indeed a good way to understand our bottom chakra.
I see it now as the motivating force that governs many decisions in our lives. And it may just be the least understood aspect of our spiritual anatomy.
I live in Southern Calif. and have been interested in getting involved with the Sufis for some time now, but have not been able to find any group here in the greater Riverside area.
Perhaps even a good Internet sight or book on this subject could be helpful. Thank you!
A bit of personal info. I have a varied religious background. I converted to Islam in 1988, and have a profound love for the Holy Quran. At this time, I am not an active member of any one religion, but have a great love for people of all faiths.
Thank you so much for you beautiful article and any advice you may have for me. Yours truly, B’Mary PS you can find me on Facebook

Hi Dr. B’Mary:

Thank you for reaching out to me. I did try to find you on FB and saw connect for Dr. Maryann Omar- is that you? I am on FB as well and post many of my writings. You may enjoy some of them. Give me a little time to respond to your inquiry as I am in the middle of something right now. In the meantime, I would suggest you look at my writing/books on Amazon and give attention to Sufism For Western Seekers which may answer some of your questions/concerns. Be well. Stewart

Hi Dr. B’Mary: Hope this answers one question.

My Path

I am neither Christian, Jew or Muslim. Nor do I follow any of the other 200 or so religions available on this planet.

I am a spiritual traveler going from world to world reflecting the Light of Creation; one day to return Home to sit beside my mother and father.
Here in this dimension my task is to rise higher and help others along their way.

Hi Dr. B’Mary:

You may find very useful some of the books by Idries Shah. I would begin with: Learning How To Learn, The Perfumed Scorpion, and The Way of the Sufi. The Institute for The Study Of Human Knowledge (ISHK) in CA (Los Altos) was set-up by Dr. Robert Ornstein, Psychologist and Shah to forward the Sufi work in the West. ISHK is know led by Ornstein’s wife. Sally Malam, since his death about 5 years ago.

Shah before his death was considered by many as The Teacher of the Age (some one who comes along every 100 years or so) and his life and work is very, very impressive/useful. These people are the ‘real deal,’ and much can be learned here. Before his death, Shah set-up a learning center in England, and now some of his work is carried on by his daughter/family and a foundation in his name. The Shah family are descendants of the Prophets and Shah named as his successor his body of written knowledge(books).

I hope you find this useful. If you wish to contact me use my e-mail: goldpath@ptd.net. Be well. Stewart
