A Lock of Hair

Traveler:         “Master, please explain to me how the average person may know of what we experience.  When I consider, speaking with the members of my family and trying to relate to them some of our spiritual teaching, I fear my explanation will fall short and not convince them to follow our Way.”

Master:             “The question you raise is a multi-level one and presumes we have a duty to convince others to follow our Way; that is not so.  God or the Light is all loving and has created a way for each person to draw closer.  The Path we follow is our way, because we are called to follow it.  Does God love one child more than another?

In time, all travelers have an individual experience of God; some in this world, and others in the next.  This matter is beyond our control or understanding.  Yet, in this matter, it is love which rules, and do not fear- all will receive full measure.

In our journey, when a traveler has a spiritual experience, they are instructed to keep it to themselves or inform only their teacher.  To share it with others may create envy and even distrust.  Also, spiritual experience is given so the traveler may learn something and draw closer; not so the traveler may feel important or believe they have gained something special.

Finally, all of these experiences, no matter how exciting are not the goal. They are foretastes; miniscule passing aspects of the greater spiritual reality. These states and experiences are not the Light, and may be compared to a lock of hair that has fallen off a beautiful maiden.  No matter how fine, shiny and colorful, these few strands of hair are but a minor aspect of the maiden’s entire beauty and reality.”

Traveler:           “If what you say is true, then, what is the benefit of spiritual experience or reading and studying any of the great books which help point the way?  Being only small representations of what is possible, what purpose do they serve?”

Master:             “This world was created so everything in it might sing glory to the Light.  It is the nature of the Light to give and give.  In this matter, we cannot limit the potential of events, discussions, books and spiritual experience.  For the tired traveler, each is a potential caress and helps point the way home.

If someone questions you about your Path, be open and share with them; however, do not debate and try to convince them. We are not looking for converts. Our way is other than this.”
