Happiness & Peace

by stewart

“The very purpose of our life is to seek happiness.”
Dalai Lama XIV

Happiness is an emotional state and for the most part comes and goes. Also it is an emotion which can be learned and refined. Often we make ourselves unhappy by replaying, in our mind, those things we consider distasteful.

When something happens that is painful, usually, it is over in a matter of moments.  We all have a tendency to extend by talking about, or replaying different aspects of the painful event. While a certain amount of this is helpful- getting it out of our system- most of us do far too much of this.

We all need to recognize our patterns of negative thinking, so we can consciously make the decision to be happier and more tranquil.  If we are aware of our ‘old demons’ and know how to disarm them, we can replace them with happier more tranquil states.

And it is only after we have become masters of our psychological processes that the spiritual awareness fully matures.

Most spiritual travelers want peace and happiness;

What they should be seeking is God/Light.

Peace and happiness are transitory states;

While God/Light are more permanent.

This reminds me of someone – i can’t remember who – that i once knew who used to say: “Have a good day, unless you have other plans!”. i don’t know if HE was the origin of the quote or not.

That’s a good one; it’s all up to you . . .

When ever my “old demons” decide to pay me a visit, I have a trick to bring myself back from being dragged through an untasteful past. I touch something with the very tips of my fingers, and just whisper to myself that I am here, and this is now. It usually works well.

That’s a wonderful technique. Redirecting your energy using your senses and consciousness. Thanks for this technique.
